Part of our job as a restoration company is to educate the public about the restoration industry and how we can help individuals if they suffer a fire, water, or mold damage.  To accomplish this goal we belong to several networking associations.

After speaking at Marketing Mondays, our marketing manager, Dave Kraszewski, received this note in the mail from an attendee.  We find it tremendously rewarding when we hear feedback like this from the public.

Grease Recycling - The Hard Way

Grease Recycling - The Hard Way

A local mexican restaurant here in Colorado Springs contacted us when their grease container (a plastic garbage can) was knocked over in the kitchen, covering nearly the entire floor with used cooking oil.

SERVPRO manufactures its own line of proprietary cleaning materials that break down grease and leave the treated area clean and odor free.

The general manager told us after we cleaned the floors that his kitchen floors had never looked so shiny!

Fire and Smoke Problem--Tri-Lakes

Fire and Smoke Problem--Tri-Lakes

The skillet blaze deposited a sooty, protein residue on the walls and ceiling of this Tri-Lake home. Luckily, the rapid extinguishing with a handy Type C device prevented damage to the entire structure. SERVPRO FST techs can wipe down the stains to prevent demolition and expensive reconstruction. Odor control, using a hydroxyl generator, can restore desired IAQ.

Commercial Water Damage- Colorado Springs Office

Commercial Water Damage- Colorado Springs Office

Commercial water damage struck this Colorado Springs office building when the sprinkler system activated inadvertently and remained on long enough to dampen the walls and lay down a lot of water on the tile flooring. The tile flooring would only require that the water be suctioned up and the floor cleaned. The drying devices in the photo are used to dry the walls and baseboards.

Tri-Lakes Mold Damaged Ceiling

Tri-Lakes Mold Damaged Ceiling

Moisture buildup in a Tri-Lakes attic often leads to a mold problem as shown in this photo. Better insulation can limit the accumulation of dampness in the attic and thus take away the water source dormant mold spores require for developing. But, if you sense a mold problem, call SERVPRO for great remediation.

Water Damage In Monument

Water Damage In Monument

Water damage is a complicated process that requires a team of trained and certified professionals like the ones at SERVPRO. To return your property to pre-damage condition, our technicians use detection equipment, extraction equipment, air moving equipment, and deodorization equipment. When it comes to water damage, we make it “Like it never even happened.”

Fire destroys home in Divide

Fire destroys home in Divide

A client up in Divide left her stove unattended for a few minutes and by the time she came back it was too late, fire had set the entire kitchen ablaze.  The fire department managed to extinguish the fire but not before massive damage was done.

New compact dehumidifiers to the rescue!

New compact dehumidifiers to the rescue!

We received a call from a local apartment complex that suffered a broken sewage line under their building in the crawlspace.  The leak had been going on for several months without anyone's knowledge.

The cleanup was pretty substantial, it required first a pump-out of standing water then several days of drying using our compact dehumidifiers such as the one pictured here.

A normal sized dehumidifier is about 3x the compact size and could not have fit into the crawlspace.  Having the right equipment and training to use that equipment is critical to a successful sewage mitigation.

Leaking water heater - Security

Leaking water heater - Security

An elderly couple in Security suffered a leaking water heater.  Not sure what to do, they called their American Family agent who referred them to us for the cleanup.  The damage was not covered by the insurance but they were grateful for our assistance.

Commercial Water Damage – Colorado Springs

Commercial Water Damage – Colorado Springs

Commercial water damage struck this Colorado Springs meeting room when a water pipe burst in one of the walls in the room. SERVPRO of Northern Colorado Springs / Tri-Lakes was called in to clean up the water and facilitate repairs to the origin of the water intrusion. When confronted with standing water such as this the first thing our technicians would do is locate the source of the leak and either repair or arrange for repair of the damage. The technicians would then pump out the water in the room and set up commercial air movers and dehumidifiers to help dry the area.

Mold Damage - Colorado Springs Bathroom

Mold Damage - Colorado Springs Bathroom

Mold damage was discovered at this Colorado Springs home in the bathroom. A tile had come loose and revealed the mold growth that existed. It takes very little time for mold growth to get a foothold. When moisture and darkness come together, mold often follows. As the photo shows, the mold colony had grown to cover a large space behind the tile.

What happens when you ignore a roof leak?

What happens when you ignore a roof leak?

It doesn't go away by itself!  The mold damage in this photo started several months ago with a small roof leak.  The customer ignored the problem until it grew worse and as a result didn't get any insurance coverage.

FLIR system lets us find water inside of walls

FLIR system lets us find water inside of walls

Something many people don't realize is there is quite a bit of science behind the work that we do.  When we first do a walkthrough after a water damage incident, we create what is called a "moisture map".  This map essentially tells our technicians the shape and extent of the water damage.

In addition to traditional moisture meters, our franchise uses a FLIR (or infrared) camera.  The wet areas of the sheetrock show up as dark on FLIR, indicating they are cooler than the surrounding materials.  In this way, we are able to "see" the water invisible to the naked eye.

Monument Smoke Stained Bathroom

Monument Smoke Stained Bathroom

The fire in the attic of this Monument home caused by the short in the ceiling exhaust led to a dirty, sooty stained bathroom. SERVPRO crew members dried out the above area and wiped down the tiles and the tub. An hydroxyl generator helped to remove the odors from the fire.

Extracting Water from Hurricane Harvey Flooding

Extracting Water from Hurricane Harvey Flooding

Our team of SERVPRO technicians, after a long journey to the Houston area, immediately began to extract water from this home. We successfully saved the hardwood flooring, and the homeowner was extremely grateful and happy for any positive action during this time of natural disaster.

Water Damage – Colorado Springs

Water Damage – Colorado Springs

Water damage at this Colorado Springs home damaged the wood flooring. Hidden moisture that has entered through the cracks in the floor will warp and cup the wood flooring. This photo is of a suction mat which sucks the water from the cracks in the joints of the wood flooring. This equipment can save the customer time and money by restoring rather than replacing the wood flooring.

Houston Debris Piled High

Houston Debris Piled High

It's amazing how people who live in flood prone areas can be so proactive in taking charge of their own cleanup.

When our estimator arrived in this Houston neighborhood to assess the damage, he noticed homeowners had already taken the step to remove non-salvageable contents from their homes.

Removing the wet contents from the home speeds drying and reduces contamination.  We can then go in and performed controlled demolition of non-salvageable structural materials and treat the home structure with an anti-microbial spray to sanitize the beams.

We perform what's called a "contents claim inventory" on the homeowner's belongings.  We catalog, inventory, and photograph each item so a list can be provided to the adjuster to reimburse the customer.

Colorado Springs Storm Flooded Construction Site

Colorado Springs Storm Flooded Construction Site

The ground water from a storm in Colorado Springs flooded this construction site home required rapid water removal. The concrete floor deck takes many days to dry out using our SERVPRO heavy duty dehumidifiers. The contaminated water left behind chemical and possible pathogens. Disinfecting and sanitizing the house was a must to secure a safe environment to continue with the building.

Broken Pipe - Commercial Building

Broken Pipe - Commercial Building

A pipe inside the floor burst affecting two office suites on either side of the pipe.  It was not easy to locate the source of the burst pipe because of its positioning.  We were able to work with the property manager and tenants on a cleanup schedule that would minimize disruption to their businesses.

Office Flood

Office Flood

When a local business suffered a burst pipe they thought that meant several days downtime.  How pleasantly they were surprised when they learned we could dry their office in place with minimal demolition!

Fire burns through roof

Fire burns through roof

This kitchen fire grew so hot it burned a hole in the roof!  It is important after a fire to carefully inspect the beams to make sure they still maintain structural integrity.

Mudslide through customer's home!

Mudslide through customer's home!

One of the last thunderstorms caused a small creek that ran under our customer's driveway to clog with storm debris.  The resulting backup caused the creek to redirect through our client's home!

Hidden Mold

Hidden Mold

A customer contacted us to report reoccurring mold on their bathroom ceiling.  No matter how much they cleaned it, it kept growing back in the same place.

When we demolished the sheetrock we discovered why.  The mold had grown deep into the sheetrock and kept reemerging because of the hyphae (root-like structures).

In this photo you can observe how the mold has grown clear through to the other side of the sheetrock.

Air scrubbers help you breathe easy after fire damage

Air scrubbers help you breathe easy after fire damage

A customer who suffered a fire was really surprised how much soot and dust we pulled out of the "clean" air while working on cleaning up his fire damage.  This filter was installed inside on of the air scrubbers we used during the project.

Poor air circulation can lead to mold

Poor air circulation can lead to mold

A property management customer called us to investigate a tenant complaint of mold on their family room ceiling.  It is very unusual for mold to grow in a place like that without water intrusion.

What we discovered was the home had no forced air and the tenant rarely opened the windows.  The steam from cooking caused condensation to build on the walls and ceiling leading to mold issues.

After we remediated the mold we advised the tenant to start running their cooking exhaust vent fan - this simple measure may have prevented the mold from growing in the first place.

Kansas City Flood - Emergency Storm Dispatch

Water Damage – Colorado Springs Home

Water Damage – Colorado Springs Home

Water damage in Colorado Springs requires the use of a variety of state-of-the art equipment. Commercial air movers and dehumidifiers are used to dry affected areas. Air quality is tested by instruments like the air sampling device shown in the photo above. SERVPRO technicians are trained in the use of all these high tech devices.

Fire Damage in Widefield

Fire Damage in Widefield

The electrical short in the attic over this kitchen in Widefield caused significant fire damage. The cleanup of the insulation and other building elements are this fire the first step. Smoke removal and isolating the affected area of this house with plastic sheeting reduced cross-contamination during the work process. Get it done right with SERVPRO.

Tri-Lakes Moldy Crawl Space

Tri-Lakes Moldy Crawl Space

When ventilation is stifled, mold can quickly gain a foothold and grow rampantly in a Tri-Lakes crawl space. Blasting with pressured ice pellets and then fogging with an antimicrobial product can remediate this problem. Ask SERVPRO about encapsulation.

Commercial Water Damage – Colorado Springs

Commercial Water Damage – Colorado Springs

Commercial water damage due to storm activity in Colorado Springs often needs to be cleaned up in the absence of conventional power sources. SERVPRO uses trailer mounted commercial generators such as the one pictured in these instances.

North Territory Floor Tenting

North Territory Floor Tenting

Our ASD applied structural drying technicians rigged floor tents to isolate and contain the hardwood floors and cabinets. By setting tubes connected to dehumidifiers underneath the poly sheeting, we extracted the remaining moisture from these wooden elements mitigating secondary water damage. By successfully salvaging the wetted areas we not only reduced cost and inconvenience to the homeowner, but we managed to keep the beautiful granite countertops in place. SERVPRO methodology and best practices are your solutions to damaging water events to your home or business.

Water Damage to a Hallway in Colorado Springs

Water Damage to a Hallway in Colorado Springs

The broken water line in this home soaked the old shag carpeting with about an inch of water. The homeowner wished to replace, not restore this damaged floor covering. We removed it from the premises, and this photo depicts (there are stains) a dry subfloor after final dehumidification; the surface was ready for new carpet installation.

Storm Damage in Tri-Lakes

Storm Damage in Tri-Lakes

The storm dropped a limb on the roof of this structure in Tri-Lakes permitting an entry point for rainwater. The saturated ceiling and walls (see the peeling paint) required a partial demolition before the drying equipment would be activated.

Tri-Lake Burnt Out House

Tri-Lake Burnt Out House

Fire damage to this home started in the living room area where the renter was ironing (see the ironing board) and left it on and unattended. She returned to a smoke and fire damaged home. The landlord called us in for the fire and smoke cleanup and restoration

Monument Water Damage to a Gym Floor

Monument Water Damage to a Gym Floor

A broken water line led to pooling water on this gym hardwood floor. Fast action was needed to mitigate damage and salvage the expensive floor. We placed suction mats to draw the water out from between the joints and managed to preserve the deck.

Colorado Springs Mold Patch

Colorado Springs Mold Patch

Poor ventilation on this enclosed porch led to the build up of moisture, mold's best friend. The shiplap wall shows a mold patch spreading. By using approved chemicals, we eradicated the fungi from this area and suggested to the owner to place a small dehumidifier to control the RH, relative humidity on the porch to discourage future mold proliferation.

Water Damage – Colorado Springs School

Water Damage – Colorado Springs School

Water damage to this cafeteria in a Colorado Springs school created the need to summon SERVPRO of Northern Colorado Springs / Tri-Lakes. We dispatched a crew immediately, and they arrived within the hour and began the water removal process. The drying process began shortly after that and was monitored closely by our staff using high-tech devices to determine when the area was sufficiently dried.
