Colorado Springs Smelly Fire Residue? Try Calling SERVPRO for Improved Indoor Air Quality
SERVPRO - Eliminating Fire Damage Odors In Colorado Springs Homes
Colorado Springs residential fires rarely destroy the entire structure, wildfires notwithstanding. Most of the damage happens when smoke and soot particles settle on surfaces, damaging them with residues and leaving odors that can be very difficult to remove.
Odors can be the most challenging part of fire damage to eliminate in Colorado Springs homes. SERVPRO technicians receive specific training on the best equipment and methods needed to remove, replace, and neutralize malodors. There are five items in our equipment inventory that our technicians use to eliminate odors and return homes to their clean, pre-fire condition.
Ventilation or Exhaust Fans – These are the commercial version of a box fan. Restoration team members set them up at entry and exit points to pull the interior air outside, along with any odors. Since they can generate 3000 to 5000 cubic feet of air per minute, setting several up inside the home also helps to displace wet air and speed up drying.
Electric Pressure Sprayers – Team members use these devices to generate a 50 psi spray of deodorizing agents. The high pressure helps force the chemical across and into surfaces with very strong odors, breaking up the residues. These devices also work well to clean heavy stains from carpets and upholstered furniture.
Injectors – For smaller, odor-producing stains, SERVPRO technicians use these machines to insert a deodorizing agent directly into them. They also use them on very tough stains that resist other cleaning methods to prevent removing and disposing of upholstered furniture and carpets.
Ozone Generators – Some odors can penetrate very deeply into some surfaces, making them almost impossible to remove. For odor particles which go that deep; technicians use ozone generators to create a gas of altered oxygen molecules to pursue them. These molecules can penetrate as deeply as the odor particles, react with them, and eliminate them. Ozone gas also leaves no residue. However, it has limited use because the premises must be vacated during use and for several hours after.
Hydroxyl Generators utilize UV lightwaves to break down water vapor into a free Hydrogen radical which then combines with malodorous molecules to chemically alter them and eliminate the foul odors. This device is safe for use, even during the cleanup stages of the service.
